About This Answer
What remains in an arahant's mind, and can an arahant aspire to help beings? As far as he understands, Ajahn Dtun says, only pure knowing remains, often called the Dhamma element, with no greed, anger or delusion left in the heart.
Having finished their own work and knowing this is their last life, arahants commonly give themselves to helping others according to their nature and ability. He points to the forest tradition of the last hundred years: Ajahn Sao and Ajahn Mun practised strictly by the Dhamma-Vinaya and the dhutaṅga ascetic observances to uproot defilements, then turned to benefiting others.
Many of their disciples, he says, attained arahantship, Ajahn Khao among them. Their teaching helped many monastics and lay people transcend suffering or reach levels of the Dhamma.
