About This Teaching
A lay follower works with an irresponsible colleague and keeps getting heated. She is mindful enough to know when she is angry and not to speak it out, and asks how to train her thinking, since other people cannot be changed but one can let go day by day.
Ajahn Dtun agrees: we cannot change others, but we can develop and guard our own mind so it does not become angry or resentful, and let go each day. Such situations, though unwelcome, are a test of whether we can overcome anger and keep the mind in equanimity. If the anger can be quenched, count it as a victory; if not, be patient and find skilful means to make the emotion gradually weaker.
