About This Teaching
Ajahn Dtun explains how breath meditation relates to insight. Simply focusing on the breath is usually regarded as samatha, a tranquillity practice whose aim is to make the mind peaceful.
When the mind sees the arising and ceasing of the breath very clearly, however, it has become insight meditation. That practice builds the energy of mindfulness and wisdom, and these two faculties are then used to reflect on thoughts and emotions and let them go from the mind.
