About This Teaching

A meditator who walks slowly after meals, fast in the early morning and at a normal pace at other times asks Ajahn Dtun whether varying the pace is correct.

He answers that what matters in walking meditation is continuous mindfulness of one's own mind, not the speed. Some meditation masters found the mind peaceful whether they walked slowly, moderately or quickly. Beginners usually walk a little slower than normal so mindfulness can keep up with their actions, while more experienced practitioners may walk faster.
