About This Teaching
Ajahn Chah warns monks and novices not to become puffed up about their status, look down on others, or take pride in family background or nationality. That kind of pride, he says, is neither virtue nor Dhamma, so wash your hands of it and aim at abandoning conceit and views.
He also advised the community not to make much of one another's faults, to remember how alike everyone is, and not to dwell on who was right and who was wrong. An admonishment is normal after a mistake; afterwards put it behind you. Holding on to feelings of right and wrong is attachment, and he links keeping the Vinaya with practising Dhamma.
