About This Answer
Should one follow auspicious days and times? Ajahn Dtun says that if one does not know about such things there is no need to keep them; he himself takes convenience as most important. For a monastery celebration, a Sunday was chosen simply because most people could come. For someone who believes in kamma, doing good brings good, so any time for good action is auspicious.
Checking an auspicious time for peace of mind is fine, he says, but do not cling to it. He gives the example of moving into a new house: rushing to buy furniture because a day is declared lucky is not appropriate; better to move in once the house is ready. He hopes laypeople will gain merit by joining such ceremonies and recalling them with a gladdened heart.
