About This Teaching
Painful feelings, Ajahn Maha Boowa says, are simply natural phenomena that keep shifting between mild and severe. As long as we do not make them a personal burden, they have no special meaning for the citta; in itself pain means nothing, so the citta remains unaffected.
The body too is meaningless in itself and adds no meaning to feelings or to oneself, unless the citta gives it a meaning and gathers the resulting suffering to burn itself. External conditions are not really responsible for our suffering; only the citta creates it.
