About This Teaching

Ajahn Pannavaddho says the Buddha's teaching hinges on the truth of discontent, or suffering. Discontent is present in everyone, in large and small ways, and it never ends; the Buddha saw it as the primary problem.

He goes further: discontent is the motive behind whatever we do. We act because we expect to gain more contentment, or less discontent, than if we did not act. In one way or another we are driven by this single factor, and a background of dissatisfaction shapes the direction of our lives all the time.
