About This Teaching
Ajahn Chah says we cannot force things to follow our wishes, because they follow the way of nature. He gives a simple comparison: imagine sitting in the middle of a freeway with cars and trucks bearing down on you.
There is no point in getting angry and shouting at the traffic not to drive there, since a freeway is where cars run. The only sensible response is to get off the road. If we insist the cars should not be there, we suffer. The image points to letting go of demands on what cannot be controlled.
