About This Teaching
Ajahn Dtun explains what to do when an asubha nimitta, an image of the body's unattractiveness or decay, appears in meditation. If the image stays fixed and does not change, mindfulness and wisdom should be applied to it.
He suggests seeing the image pass through the stages of decomposition, recognising its impermanence and breaking it down, so that the mind lets go of attachment to the body. As it does so, the mind can enter a deeper level of concentration. Seeing the body's impermanent nature in this way, he says, allows the mind to let go temporarily.
