About This Teaching
A monk recalls being asked by Ajahn Chah to sew a set of robes. He worked flat out in the sun, wanting to finish quickly so he could get on with meditation.
Ajahn Chah came over and asked what the hurry was. To finish, the monk said, so he could meditate. And after meditating? And after that? The monk saw that the questions would never end. Ajahn Chah then pointed out that the sewing itself was his meditation. The monk had heard many talks about letting go without understanding them; this exchange showed him his mistake of always rushing toward some later moment instead of practising with the task in front of him.
