About This Teaching
Must all 32 parts of the body be contemplated, or only some? Ajahn Dtun answers that there is no need to go through every part. Some people prefer to contemplate the elements; others take the hair or the skin. If, once the mind is concentrated, one takes up a single part, sees its unattractive nature clearly and the mind becomes still and lets go, that is enough.
One may follow what the mind is inclined toward on a given day, perhaps the skin one day and the bones another. If the mind does not settle with one part, one can change to another, such as from hair to skin or from skin to bones, so long as the contemplation stays with the body.
