About This Teaching
Ajahn Chah says there is no need to seek out special places to practise. Wanting to practise alone is half right and half wrong. He does not oppose formal samadhi, but one must know when to come out of it: after seven days, two weeks, a month or two, return to dealing with people and situations, because that is where wisdom is gained.
Too much samadhi, he warns, brings no advantage and can even unbalance the mind. Treating formal sitting as the complete and only way of practice, while ignoring ordinary life, he calls being intoxicated with meditation. Meditation means giving rise to wisdom, and that can be done anywhere, at any time, in any posture.
