About This Teaching

Ajahn Chah says it is essential to understand mental pleasure and mental pain as they really are. Without that understanding we keep holding wrong views.

The Buddha, he explains, recognised these two states as our constant enemies: as long as we do not fully understand them, we are not freed from suffering. For this reason he points to the Buddha's right practice: sila, looking after actions and speech so they cause no harm to oneself or others; samadhi, firm stability of attention; and panna, a thorough understanding of the mass of conditioned phenomena.
